Personality & Powers

Helios is the twin of Solis, the Southern Sun, and the 2nd born of the celestial siblings. He is recorded for having the most known interactions with mortal kind, as he loves to walk the lands and challenge travellers with riddles and quests of debauchery. When Helios presents himself, he often does so in the form of the Riddle Master, a mysterious cloaked figure, most commonly found in the desert of Akasuna. Helios enjoys creating chaos and brokering deals with mortals and binds people to him who challenge his knowledge.

Although he governs the sun of Delvheim and Akasuna, it is theorised that he favours Akasuna. This is due to the realms reputation for unpredictability, strong trade routes and progressive attitude. When Akasuna was founded, the kingdom of Delvheim grew noticeably colder. Delvheim does have a beacon dedicated to the Sun Lord, only lit during an aurora borealis, blessing the mountain realm with longer days during the summer.

History & Events

Helios sprung into existence shortly after his brother, Solis, to brighten the world so far governed by Tenebria. Helios favoured chaos and the progression and chose to lord over the northern portion of Isilendor. There, he had his fun during the development of the lands, beginning with the first trace of mortal life, The Valiks. Valenheim is the first known civilization, although "known" would not be entirely accurate. Many folk still believe Eldathren to be the first and Solis falsely gathers much of the praise for creating mortals. The Valiks lived in the northern mountains, long before Delvheim came to be. They recognised Helios as their overruling deity and built a shrine in his honour. They were an advanced race, constructing technology and mechanisms that far out rival the constructs seen in Delvheim today. Though their advancements also changed their outlook on the divine, and their worship of Helios progressed to an appreciation for each other instead. Not much else was known of their kind, for a major earthquake shook the world, burying the Valikal people while a tall mountain rose above the heart of Valenheim. It is not known where the earthquake came from. Some suspect Helios enacted revenge for no longer worshipping him. Others believe it was a plot by Solis who wanted control over the mortal lives of Isilendor. Valenheim was lost.

Helios spent a few hundred years watching Solis lord over the new foundations of Eldathren. All his brother did was boast of their beauty and perfection. To his surprise, a new race arrived in the north. Not one Helios himself had anticipated but the Chaos Lord did enjoy the random acts of the world. Dwarves had travelled to the mountains from a distant land. They settled and soon after began to dig. Helios was impressed, they weren't quite the glory he had witnessed in Valenheim but they had a different quality. The dwarves were hardy and dug deep into the mountains, creating tunnels and residence, eventually carving out what is now known as the city of Delvheim. Helios observed the formation of a new realm right before his eyes and these people met with the elves of the south, forming new alliances he never thought possible. It did bring him some joy to see his brother scowl at the bond between elves and dwarves.

Isilendor continued to shift and change, seeing the arrival of humans to the south and the creation of 2 new realms. Braitheld, and later, Akasuna. The desert empire grew rapidly in the north east, accepting all forms of life and customs. With the formation of Akasuna, Helios turned his attention to it's people, and a cold grew in Delvheim.

Helios became curious after that and seeing so many mortals wander the world. He regularly made visits and challenged them on their adventures. The Northern Sun revelled in the changes, even using his Silvertongue to turn the tides of great battles. For a long time, that's all he had, moments with mortals. It wasn't until Solis disappeared in 0009 of the New Era, that he got more involved. He materialised on Isilendor in order to gather adventurers and seek out his youngest brother, Asmundis. The Riddle Master guided them into the realm of Evergreen where his brother kept only the company of flora and fauna. They succeeded in their quest but unfortunately this resulted in Asmundis sacrificing himself and Helios immediately turned the blame towards Tenebria.

It only made sense to him that Tenebria would be behind the disappearance of Solis, so the Northern Sun rallied mortals to go to war against the Night God. For the first time in millenia, Valenheim was unsealed beneath the mountains of Delvheim. Helios brought his followers to the forge deep beneath where he granted a select few the opportunity to create Valikal Steamblades and marched to battle on the surface. Helios faced Tenebria on the battle field but any actions were halted when Solis made a sudden return. The Southern Sun explained his disappearance and Helios gave his apologies to Tenebria and peace settled between them.
