Elemental Magic

The Secondary Elements

Elemental Magic: An Introduction

Element

al Magic on World of Legends is categorised into 3 major groups; primary, secondary and complex elements. The secondary elements are typically a combination of 2 primary elements. Many mages become skilled in at least 1 secondary element that aligns with their primary elemental affinity.

There are 5 recognised Secondary Elements: lightning, ice, magma, crystal and sand. There are other more advanced elements that don’t display affinity of any kind and not well known. These include Acid, Mist, Combustion and Plasma. You can learn more about these through the Arcane Arts, taught by Karanda Hornridge or in her books.

Elemental Magic: The Secondary Elements

Lightning

At its simplest form, lightning magic is the combination of Air and Fire to create electric charge. Lightning is typically understood by mages a lot sooner than other secondary elements, but in its advanced forms, can generate violent thunderstorms. When not properly controlled, the fire and air can cause explosions.

Affinity Crystal: The crystal appears to crack internally without breaking
Elemental Incorporation: enhances speed and creates sparks and electrocutes anything it comes in contact with

Ice

One of the more commonly mastered secondary elements, Ice is created through air and water. Weaker forms of ice magic can freeze temporarily but a very powerful ice mage can create great walls of ice and conjure up blizzards.

Affinity Crystal: The crystal feels freezing cold and frost air emits from the surface
Elemental Incorporation: enhances balanced and cools anything it comes into contact with

Magma

A volatile combination of earth and fire to create molten rock and melt all it touches. Powerful mages can become as aggressive as a volcano with this ability. Magma must be used with extreme caution as it can cause severe damage to all it touches, including the caster. This element is difficult to master and typically takes a skill pyromancer to generate the heat necessary for magma.

Affinity Crystal: The crystal melts into molten rock
Elemental Incorporation: None

Crystal

A volatile combination of earth and fire to create molten rock and melt all it touches. Powerful mages can become as aggressive as a volcano with this ability. Magma must be used with extreme caution as it can cause severe damage to all it touches, including the caster. This element is difficult to master and typically takes a skill pyromancer to generate the heat necessary for magma.

Affinity Crystal: The crystal melts into molten rock
Elemental Incorporation: None

Sand

This secondary element is the combination of earth and air to reduce earth to sand particles. It is difficult to control in this form due to its small particles but can do incredible damage when used well.

Affinity Crystal: The crystal disintegrates into sand itself
Elemental Incorporation: None

Elemental Magic: Experts in Secondary Elements

When mages become recognised for their talents in certain elements, it may earn them some titles to acknowledge their expertise. Secondary elements can sometimes get missed as people more commonly associate primary elements (eg. pyromancer, aeromancer, geomancer, hydromancer). There are occasions when a mage becomes especially outstanding in the secondary element. Examples of these include:

Cryomancer / Frost Mage - A mage skilled with both water and air elements in order to control and create ice. They can freeze the water in the world or the water they produce in their spell casting.
Storm Mage / Electromancer - Particularly strong mages that may generate intense wind storms and combine with lightning magic to form thunder storms.
Psammomancer / Sand Mage - A mage gifted with earth and air magic, combined to control sand. They are exceptionally gifted at walking across sandy terrain and survive well in the desert.
Mineral Mage / Crystalmancer - Skilled mages that can combine their earth magic with water to generate and control crystals. They can also have a knack for mining rare minerals.
