Classic Character Classes

Ranger

What is a Ranger?

In classic medieval fantasy,

Ranger

is a class primarily known for hunting and survival skills. Typically they are rustic characters with great knowledge of the land, and often come with an animal companion.

Ranger

s are famed for their stealth and archery abilities, with a keen grasp of traversing difficult terrain instead of enjoying the comfort of villages and towns. Often they combine their archery with close range combat, sometimes developing dual blade abilities making them a lethal opponent. Rangers possess sharp senses, always on alert and study their opponents intensely, understanding their weaknesses well. They enjoy nature and are so in tune with animals they can gain the ability to communicate and understand beasts.

Ranger on World of Legends

There are 2 kinds of Ranger on World of Legends:
  1. Rank - when players reach Rank 4, they become known as Rangers. Players can choose to stay at this Rank if they wish to immerse themselves at this level. To rank up on World of Legends, players need to complete the examination period for the previous Ranks. See more information under the "Skills" section here
  2. Playstyle - Users can choose to play the role of a Ranger for their character. This includes the classic skills of a medieval fantasy Ranger or an adaptation of Real World Rangers. World of Legends offers great information for the landscapes that have been created here which can add wonderful details to a Ranger styled character.

Real World Ranger

"

Ranger

" in the real world usually refers to a branch of law enforcement or military. The word is synonymous with "scout," and defines someone who patrols territories to protect the area from intruders or signs of danger.

In the modern world,

Ranger

is also a title for park rangers, tasked with patrolling national parks and nature reserves in order to protect the area. They help travellers navigate the parks, lead rescue missions and alert of high risk situations.

Variations of Ranger:

  • Beast Tamer - A Beast Tamer is a master of handling animals and beasts. They have keen knowledge about creatures of the world and can become pair bonded with animal companions. This is best recognised with a certificate in the Divine Arts and Bestiary Studies, dubbed "Creature Comforts".
  • Hunter - In the professional sense, the combination of archery, knowledge of the landscape and beasts make Rangers the ideal Hunter.. and not just of animals. Many Rangers are contracted by nobles to remove unwanted beasts from their territory.
  • Night Stalker - Rangers skilled at fighting in the shadows. They work best at night, taking out enemies under the cloak of darkness. The status ability "Shadowstryder" can boost these Rangers.
  • Beast Slayer - You may think of "The Witcher" as an example of a Beast Slayer. With the Rangers advanced knowledge of beasts, they can become famed for slaying the most monstrous of creatures. Dragons and Vampires are unsafe to these Rangers.
  • Survivalist or Stryder - Due to their strong experience with the land and beasts, Rangers develop high level Survival skills. They may survive the harshest of lands including dense forests, steep mountains and hot deserts. This is best recognised with a certificate in Hunting & Survival.
