Mastering Magic

Illusion

Illusion: An Introduction

Illusion

magic pretty much does exactly what it says on the tin: creates illusions. That is the simplest form. It requires great discipline and control over the mind. With illusion magic you can influence others to see things that aren't really there, to silence noises and avoid detection, to instill false emotions or turn completely invisible. Experts in illusion magic are often called illusionists. It requires a great sense of self to overcome powerful illusions and avoid being trapped in your own mind. Illusions are a favourite area of magic studied in the modern world quite often. Modern day magicians and hypnotists practice methods of influencing or tricking the mind. Some may argue that illusion magic doesn't really exist, that it's just highly charismatic people that can turn you against yourself.

Illusion Spells on World of Legends

Illusion

magic is primarily introduced in the Divine Arts, as the magic is very focused on power of the mind. You can learn to cast and overcome illusions. Dark Arts can also create illusions though usually with a focus on dominating the mind entirely. Dark Illusions can torment people, while Divine Illusions can lean towards bliss. If you study Blacksmithing, you may also learn enchantments to help deal with illusions. Armour enchantments can camouflage the caster or overload the senses of others. We highly encourage you to pursue illusion magic. Keeping a few illusion spells in your back pocket may just save your life.

Illusion in Other Media

Dungeons and Dragons

Illusion

is a prominent school of magic practiced in the Forgotten Realms lore, and the tabletop game Dungeons and Dragons. It is very popular among wizards and rogues, who can use the magic to disguise themselves and turn invisible. They can create figments in the mind, causing the target to hear and see unexpected things.

Elder Scrolls

The Elder Scrolls games introduce a branch of illusion magic, developed more prominently in the 5th installment: Skyrim. From the base levels, it can be wielded to manipulate the emotions of foes. Mages can cause fear, anger and calm with a spell. Illusion magic can guide your path, muffle your steps and silence your spells. At the top level you can turn invisible to jump at enemies without notice.
