Marvellous Materials

Mining

What is Mining?

A Brief Introduction

Mining is the act of digging up or extracting valuable things from the earth, typically to gain materials we can’t grow or easily make. Examples include, metals, gems, coal and oil. In order for something to be worth mining, the material must have enough value to sell and make a profit. Mining also includes getting resources like water and natural gas from underground.

Mining of Resources

In World of Legends, Delvheim is basically the main mining district across all four realms. When the first dwarven settlers started digging into the mountainous areas to establish Delvheim, they found a bunch of resources to help them; coal, iron, steel and eventually gold.

Mining of Gemstones

After centuries of digging and building the underground Kingdom of Delvheim, the Dwarves stumbled upon a hidden treasure; a vast array of gemstones deep within the mountains. Their advanced mining techniques unearthed diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and more. The Dwarves quickly put these gems to use; adorning swords and daggers with jewel-encrusted pommels, introduced the production of jewellery and used them as symbols of wealth and nobility. These gemstones became a mark of honour, gifted to citizens who served the realm with excellence. The trade of these stones flourished, with shipments reaching other realms.

Mining Special Resources

World of Legends

Luna Lapis

Delvheim's mining operations had reached incredible depths, pushing the boundaries of their underground kingdom. A remarkable discovery was made: a hidden pocket containing a hot spring and the most stunning stones. These stones shimmered with an internal light, illuminating the cavern without the need for torches. Miners brought these luminous stones to the city for examination.

Shadow of an Eclipse Special Event

During the deity event, Shadow of an Eclipse, users could obtain a Nephrite Ore if they pledged their allegiance to Tenebria or a Valik Shard if they aligned with Helios. If they collected five pieces of either, they then could trade them in to be forged into their own divine blade.

Nephrite Ore creates the Nephrite Daggers;
Nephrite is an immutable and highly indestructible substance that can not be shaped by the hands of mortals, which is what makes these pairs of daggers so fascinating. Forged upon Tenebria's Altar by the Night God Eternal himself within the Valley of the Despair, these pairs of dual daggers were specifically crafted for their owners, the disciples of Tenebria, who took it upon themselves to gather enough Nephrite Ore in service to their Dark Lord.

Valik Shards create the Valikal Steamblade;
As mysterious as the place it hails from, the Valikal Steamblade upholds the mechanical prowess of Valenheim itself. Forged upon the Shrine of Helios, it was specifically crafted for their owners who took it upon themselves to gather enough Valik Shards in service to the Northern Sun. What makes this mechanical weapon so fascinating lies within its glass chamber beneath the hilt. At the simple pull of a lever, when fueled by a Valik shard, the blade becomes engulfed in a fiery vortex with little to no magic involved.

Nephrite Ore & Nephrite Dagger

Description taken from The Enchanter Shop:
A rare crystallised substance mined from the hidden depths of the Valley of Despair. Although listed as an ore, nephrite is actually a precious gemstone now heavily sought after by blacksmiths and jewellers in their craft for its enchanting properties and uses in spell casting.

In the plot event, WoL Craft - Oh Shit, here we go again!, the second part of the plot was to follow a grid like map and gain loot. However, in order to mine for Nephrite Ore, the user had to have a diamond pickaxe in order to mine it.

Valik Shards & Valikal Steamblade

Description taken from The Enchanter Shop:
A rare metallic substance found only within the lost city of Valenheim. Many experts in their craft were initially wholly baffled as to whether this strange substance was a precious gem or a precious metal, however, it has recently come to light that it is indeed metal. Through recent advances made in blacksmithing, valik can now be used to craft all kinds of weaponry but the scarcity makes it an expensive endeavour…

It is presumed that you can mine for valik shards in Valenheim, though it isn’t confirmed.
