The Connacháin Estate is an abandoned property, believed to be haunted and surrounded by a curse. It once belonged to Colum Connacháin, heir to a wealthy shipping family. His legacy and misfortune is a story regularly told around Braitheld hearths.

A tale as old as time - a mystic knocked on the door of Connacháin, seeking help with her vardo. The wheels had broken and she sought the means to repair them. Through his suspicion and ignorance, Colum dismissed the mystic and refused to help. However, Mr Connacháin's refusal was his downfall. The mystic placed a curse on him and his entire family, one that would sit upon the estate to this day. Her words are recounted as follows:

"Spirits shall torment your soul!
While a straight path remains, you shall be lead to ruin!
Only a crooked path will lead to your salvation!"

At first he thought she was a liar and trickster, but his daughter was struck down with an illness. A healer found that she was taken hold of by a malevolent spirit that could not be cured by normal means.

Using the mystic's words as guidance, Colum constructed a maze around his house, or a "crooked path", as he had interpreted. The maze seemed to work, his daughter healed for a time.

Colum kept building the maze, more and more and driven mad by paranoia from the curse. He was convinced that spiritual activity heightened whenever he took rest from building the maze and spent every last coin on its expansion until he eventually passed on.

The estate remains abandoned and few dare go near it. The maze has become overgrown and too difficult and dangerous to traverse.
