Gemstones
This is our 2nd instalment in our highly requested Enchanting series. Today we are discussing the use of gemstones which are a means of anchoring and boosting the magical properties imbued on your weapons, armour and trinkets.
If you wish to learn more outside this series, make sure to visit
Jorg Farwynn who will introduce Enchanting after 5 ranks of
Blacksmithing.
Clear Quartz
Every enchanter should keep a clear quartz on hand, it is the most commonly found crystal and acts like a magic battery. A mage can pour their own magic into the crystal and fuse it with their choice of object. However, the magic will deplete over time and needs to be recharged regularly. The bigger the crystal, the more magic it can contain.
The benefits of the clear quartz is that you can change the magic type added to the item. In some cases the crystal can be transferred to other objects.
Specialised Gemstones
Other gemstones carry more specific magic qualities. However, the benefit is they are long term charges. If you know your speciality, the magic in these rare gemstones are important to note:
- Red Diamond - Every Element
- Ruby - Fire
- Emerald - Air
- Garnet - Blood
- Topaz - Metal
- Diamond - Energy/Force
- Sapphire - Lightning
- Amethyst - Charmspeak
- Pearl - Healing
- Aquamarine - Water
- Moonstone - Light
- Onyx - Spirit
- Tanzanite - Ice
- Citrine - Teleportation
- Smokey Quartz - Magical Shield
- Peridot - Earth
- Obsidian - Darkness
So if you're a pyromancer, maybe see about getting your hands on a Ruby pendant. A shield maiden may see value in fusing a Smokey Quartz to the center of her shield.
