It is that time of year, the nights are darker in the northern hemisphere and brighter in the south. Many of us are preparing to endure conversations with relatives and family friends we don't particularly like. While the best option is to quietly nod or grin and bare it, we at World of Legends have prepared some tactical phrases to help you get by.

  • Mnidni Zirres - Happy Holidays
    A classic, can't go wrong. Some less cultured friends and family might question it, and others might recoil at the fact that you didn't specifically say "Christmas" but that just means it's working.
  • Telral Ao - Thank You
    It doesn't matter if you absolutely despise the cheap ass body wash and soaps your aunt and uncle got you last minute, just say thank you and move on.
  • Teveo Kel Ao - Nice to meet you
    John has apparently known you since you were a baby but this definitely feels like the first time you've met. Might as well be polite about it.
  • Cilnapah - Congratulations!
    One of your cousins is probably getting married or having a baby. Keep this in the back pocket for such news.
  • Aici khovri ao nuthres? - What have you been up to?
    Do you care? No. However, social customs expect idle chitchat and questions such as this help move things along nicely.
  • Okinol Qi - Kiss me.
    You got a bit carried away at the work Christmas party, turn on the charm with this one. They'll be so impressed by your grasp of Eldalair they'll be swept off their feet in no time.
  • Laerta malir asune! - Let’s play a game!
    Time to tear the family apart with board games and charades!
  • Teku qi kars ao ra kaena? - Can I get you a drink?
    It's an excuse to leave the room and hopefully get your uncle to go to sleep so you don't have to hear him talk anymore.
  • Oakia rhen, callo! - Another round, please!
    At least this way your aunts ravings are a lot easier to tolerate.
  • Qi hra shahn - I feel sick
    When the above goes too far.
  • Qi phentumo cedrelar! - I need a healer!
    When the above goes way too far.
  • Qi scilla enya - I’m with child.
    Break the news in style, even if it's not true. Now the drama unfolds. Who is the father? Why aren't you married? Oh the joy.
  • Ao ra ocrudh - You’re inept/ You’re a dumbass.
    Look, it's true okay? Not all of us can grin and bear it.
  • Qi teho - I’m hungry.
    Some of us are just here for the food.
  • Bhocna - Nevermind.
    Oh no, you forgot where you were and started to disagree with your racist cousin. Time to back pedal.
  • Uzfaa qi, Kalle! - Fight me, Bitch!
    On second thought!
  • Qi udnyc kars nolana. - I should get going.
    Thank the gods, it's over. Time for bed or to celebrate with your actual friends on that online community you love more than your family. (*cough* WoL *cough*)
  • Mnidni Nahka Seyr! - Happy New Year!
    You did it, you survived... oh.. there's more?
