Thousand years ago before the four realms were formed there were many Houses in Isilendor. The result ? Some of them would form alliances to rule the lands. And when they needed more ground they had to take it. Because every land had its House, their lords and ladies, kings and queens, princes and princesses.
A council from the night lands of the North gathered houses from around their region. They all agreed to participate and get rewarded with land, gold or any other favor they would ask for. In return they would give their personal armies to make a big one and start their campaign to conquer lands.
But their numbers were not enough. They could barely stand against a siege or a big battle in open fields. They need more men.
Till one of them suggested a very original idea. Original but risky: To wake up the dead...
They found graveyards where long lost and forgotten soldiers were buried. They found the answer but not the solution of how to wake them up.
Word spreaded around the North. In the form of a rumor. A smart plan from the council to attract sorcerers to help them wake up the dead.
And within a week one replied !
He was a wanderer. He would assist kings with his ability to perform magic and what they would ask for that none else could do.
But to work with the dead ? That was new for him. He had the knowledge from his studies but never did such a thing before. It could be a huge opportunity for Amon.
With the assistance of an elite guard team he visited those graveyards. He started waking up the dead. Some had no flesh at all. It was scary even for those well trained soldiers that saw the progress.
Many were buried with their weapons too. And they would be the first to join the battles. No need to take care of them. They were meant to be expendable.
Amon managed to gather a few thousand. Enough to cause troubles to the rest of the Houses around the continent.
The council of the North was happy. They offered a lot of gold but he denied.
Instead he wanted to have access to every book their library had. No matter if that book had sensitive information and had to be hidden from the public.
The council was so excited and blinded by their hopes to conquer lands that none of them cared about some books.
But what was he searching for ?
It seemed that Amon was searching for answers. Answers from the future. He wanted to know what would happen to everyone who would dare to ask for his fate and what would happen to him as well.
One thing he knew was that sometimes you can change the future if you know the outcome. And he knew he would change his own future because he didn't' see himself alive in five years, after the war between the Houses would end.
He gathered some souls into a skull. They could give him the power to see what would happen the next day, the next week, the next year... and what could be better than knowing your enemies inside of the House you're helping won't be there in the nearest future ?
He helped none, warned none. He worked for his own benefit. And when the war ended he vanished. None knows where he went or what happened to him.
Some believed he got killed and was fooled to see it coming. Others that he found the secret to become immortal. And others that the skull swallowed him and he's forgotten onto a tower, somewhere far far away...
