They had enough dragon riders to conquer a whole realm. But the enemy had a weapon to fight against: Scorpions.

Large ballistas with arrows strong enough to pass dragon scales. There was another problem apart from this. Dragons should wear light armor to fly higher and not get tired easily. This meant they were pretty exposed to this danger and there should be a solution.

Fifteen dragon riders were ready to march to war. Konrand was one of them.
Aliphera didn't want to own another dragon but she would help them by being into infantry. She was training a special team to cause damage and avenge for the loss of her beast.
She was a good addition to Braitheld's army. And she brought elves from Eldathren. Which meant they officially had an alliance. They didn't know anything, yet, for Delvheim. They made sure to guard very well the borders and have eyes to the mountains.
These would be the reserves. The rest of the army moved to the closest town of Akasuna. It was a medium in size, a few metres when you passed the border.

And no matter how many soldiers were there. A dragon was always a strong enemy to fight. And if you have more than one...

The battle started with infantry moving behind of siege towers. Some brave managed to carry ladders and climbed the wall first, before the rest would pass once the towers arrived to the walls.
Akasuna was hard to beat. They managed to take away many of their opponents.
And then the horns were blown.

They expected to get a massive attack from Braitheld. And they were right. Just not with men.

Dragons arrived from the sky and burnt many buildings right away. The walls too. And the fire did damage to both of the sides. It was their first time in a battle. And a mess. Some said it was a massacre, not a battle. There were no rules.
Before it would end both sides splitted and they were everywhere. It was about surviving. Until there was none left, from Akasuna.

The commanders tried to reform the lines and gather their men. The dragons landed outside of the city, to the fields and they were for any damage.
All of them were clean. They seemed a little bit tired from blowing too much fire. But they would get used to it.

Once the army was gathered and they counted their losses they were settled to the ruins and next they would march further into Akasuna.

However the king wasn't happy with Konrand and his riders. Burning a city makes them pay for restoration and it will cost gold. They had to find another way.
Konrand had to think with his men how to win in a siege without burn everything to the ground while the king would take care their movements and the strategy.

They finish the battle

Aftermath

Meanwhile, Akasuna's king was preparing a huge counterattack and they found a plan of how to turn the events of the war and bring them victory.

One thing was sure. The massacre that happened before was nothing of what will come...
