Tenebria is the most misunderstood and feared of all the deities in Isilendor. He tends to involve himself in the conflicts between mortals, corrupting their thoughts and turning them against each other. Lord Tenebria is strongest in the darkest nights and consumes souls he believes have run their course in life.
Vampires, hellhounds and spiders are spawns of Tenebria. Protection against Tenebria's powers is difficult unless one is pure of heart. Light magic can be snuffed out by his darkness but a true diviner can withstand it.
Despite his dark deeds, Tenebria is passionate and willing to prove himself. He deeply loves Lemuria, the Moon goddess, and his daughter Lorelei, queen of the sea.
Long ago, when only the gods and elemental spirits roamed, Tenebria fell in love with Lemuria. The pair complimented each other greatly but the love consumed him. During the day, when Helios and Solis ruled over, Tenebria was kept at bay and unable to enjoy time with his love. He wished for an eternal night and in an attempt to accomplish this wish, he tried to kill the sun gods.
However, Tenebria was caught and failed in his betrayal. No longer trusting him, Helios and Solis decided to cast him down to Isilendor, locking him away in the mountains of Delvheim. In his grief, the Valley of Despair formed beneath the northern peaks. He was sealed in a fortress deep within.
Through the years, Tenebria's power leaked across Delvheim. This power released nightmares, spiders and hellhounds upon the realm. During this time, the first occurence of vampires appeared. Tenebria attempted to create them in Lemuria's image but as the agent of death, this didn't quite go to plan. People believed much of Delvheim's conflicts came from the corruption of the valley.
In 0003 NE (Chapter 3), an unusual event occurred where the Valley of Despair erupted more than usual. Tenebira's power became untethered, spreading further and beckoning adventurers towards the valley. There, a battle broke out against the Night God and those wishing to cease the dark powers from leaking any more. A strange turn came about, when the people grew pity for him, sensing his sorrow. Together, they found a way to release him from his binds and a new found loyalty to Tenebria was formed.
Not much else was seen of Tenebria again until 0009 NE, when Solis the Southern Sun tasks the Night God with looking after the southern lands. Tenebria agreed but he did not possess the power of the sun and Eldathren and Braitheld were shrouded in a permanent night.
This plan was not shared with the other gods and Helios believed Tenebria killed his brother. Unrest stirred and many lost faith in the Lord of Darkness, choosing to follow Helios. The Northern Sun God began to gather followers, raising an army to Tenebria. The Night God prepared a defence of loyal subjects but when the armies met on the battlefield, Solis resurfaced. He revealed the truth, that he purposefully left Tenebria in charge, not trusting the new loyalty he had gained. Once more, the Night Lord recovered the faith of the people.
