[Deity] Deities of Isilendor

Deities of Isilendor

World of Legends has many interesting areas of history and lore created by the staff and users. The deities are a big factor in the lore and manifest with annual events for unique items and divine favours. Players may encounter the deities throughout the year. Most meet at least 1 deity each day; Helios, otherwise known as the Riddle Master.

Each deity has their own set of powers and characteristics that sets them apart from each. Not everyone in Isilendor believes in the deities and much is debated for those that do.

Alias(s): Sol, Southern Sun, Head of the Divine Pantheon,
Astrological Projection - The Southern Sun
Ruling Realms - Eldathren & Delvheim
Influences - Fate, Knowledge, Leadership, Loyalty, Order, Perfection
Divine Favour - Eyes of Greed
Devotee Status - Blind Seer, Warlord

Solis is often heralded as the First of the Great Pantheon, Chief of the Divines, and the highest authority of both the Aether and the mortal plane of existence. He is the oldest brother to Helios, Lemuria, and Asmundis, and is renowned for his imprisonment of Tenebria in the Valley of Despair. He governs Order and maintains the balance of all things in this world. Despite his significance, not much is known or understood about him. He harbours very little interest in mortals or the mortal plane of existence. Due to his affinity for law and order, Solis is often the most revered deity among knights, paladins, and those in justice-based professions. It is widely believed from ancient tomes that it was Solis who eradicated the blasphemous race of Valiks prior to the Old Era for their desecration of the Great Pantheon and their lack of faith in their patron, Helios.

The Tennents of Solis

1. Justice will prevail!
2. Lead with a firm hand, never a weak heart.
3. Consider everything to be an experiment in perfectionism. Never place value in anything less.
4. Reward Loyalty. It is the hardest find and the most bitter loss.
5. No amount of knowledge is ever deemed powerful until it has been applied.

Marriage Customs of Solis

Time of Day: Daybreak
Location: Temple of the Divines
Attire: Formal attire - No guests are permitted to wear the colour gold and is only reserved for the Bride and Groom
Symbolic Gesture: The Groom presents a sword to his Bride which she may either take up or reject.
Extremist Brides who plan on rejecting their Groom in this moment have been known to behead them in the name of Solis, deeming them unworthy of their hand in marriage - This is not considered a crime out of respect to the custom.

Helios

Alias(s): Riddle Master, Riddle, The Northern Sun
Astrological Projection - The Northern Sun
Ruling Realms - Akasuna & Braitheld
Influences - Chaos, Communication, Debauchery, Progression, Trade, Trickery
Divine Favour - Ashfallen
Devotee Status - Silvertongue
Relic(s): Valik Shard, Valikal Steamblade
Pocket Dimension: - Ruins of Valenheim

Helios, Solis's younger twin brother, represents the counterbalance to a perfect world. He created the first race of mortals, the Valiks, and often spends vast amounts of time on the mortal plane rather than the Aether. Unlike his brother, Helios is highly intrigued by, and even greatly admires, the imperfections of mortals and revels in their overindulgence. So much so that he lives out his immortal life as an entity known as 'The Riddle Master' and participates in all manner of mortal affairs. Due to his natural affinity for progression, Riddle highly favours the realm of Akasuna.

The Tennents of Helios

1. Know your limits... and then push yourself even further
2. Be the Mastermind of your own game, never the instrument of your undoing
3. Challenge everything
4. When your blade is sheathed, weaponize your wit and keep a sharp tongue
5. You only live once, enjoy it. Do not harbour the regret of a story untold

Marriage Customs

Time of Day: Dusk
Location: Akasuna - Those who wish to marry in the name of Helios will more often than not travel to Akasuna
Attire: White/Black clothing is forbidden. All colours are accepted though often heavily embroidered in gold. Body paints are usually heavily featured. The Groom traditionally only wears clothing from the waist down, forgoing any kind of covering on his arms or torso.
Extremist Brides will dress similarly, forgoing any kind of covering except that which hides their most intimate areas and instead opt for an excessive amount of decorative jewellery.
Unlucky: It is widely believed that a huge misfortune will befall the Bride and Groom if their reception runs out of alcohol to offer their guests often resulting in Helios Weddings being the most expensive to host.

Tenebria

Astrological Projection - The Void
Ruling Realms - Braitheld & Delvheim
Influences - Betrayal, Corruption, Lust, Obsession, Ostracism, Regret
Divine Favour - Lich of the Valley, Orc Kin
Devotee Status - Necromancer, Shadownstryder, Vampire
Relic(s): - Cloak of Tenebria, Dual Nephrite Daggers, Naphrite Ore,
Pocket Dimension: - The Hidden

Despite being the oldest deity of the Great Pantheon, Tenebria is widely regarded as the Fourth Divine Being. His astrological projection of the 'Void' insinuates that his manifestation predates the world itself. He is the husband of Lemuria, the Mother Moon, and the father of Lorelei, the Heart of the Ocean. He is revered among mortals as the patron of the ostracised and the long forgotten. Many recount the tale of Tenebria's Ultimate Betrayal, the Dark Lord's intent to usurp Solis as Head of the Divine Pantheon. Although various retellings have blurred the true narrative, Tenebria's imprisonment within the Valley of Despair remains the irrefutable outcome, chained upon his shrine for thousands of years. In his depraved desperation for Lemuria's love and comfort, Tenebria sought a way to recreate her likeness within his valley; in her stead, he brought forth the first wave of Vampires into Isilendor.

The Tennents of Tenebria

1. Remember: All you have is yourself. When you have nothing else that has to be enough.
2. Guard your back, the worst betrayals never come from your enemies
3. Seek out the solidarity of my void, your mind is already a terrible place
4. Follow your most intense desires mercilessly
5. Embrace your tormented soul. The suffering it has endured shall not be ignored

Marriage Customs

Time of Day: Twilight - Half Moon
Location: Anywhere - Elopement may only ever be bonded by a Tenebrian Priest. Similarly marriages that occur within Deepfury Mine are only ever permitted in the name of Tenebria.
Attire: It is traditional for the entire wedding party to wear all black. The bride is an exception to the rule who may wear whatever she desires - white or gold is most favourable.
Putting the Romance in Necromancy: Although not a common practice and still frowned upon, all weddings between mortals and the undead are bound in the name of Tenebria. Whilst Mortal/Vampire pairings are the most common examples of this practice, it is not unheard of for a loved one to remarry their partner after they have passed to reestablish their bond.

Lemuria

Alias(s): The Mother, Mother Moon, The Moon Mistress
Astrological Projection - The Moon
Ruling Realms - The Four Realms of Isilendor
Influences - Change, Charity, Love, Matrimony, Parentage
Divine Favour - Lemuria's Light
Devotee Status - None (Yet)
Relic(s): - Ivella ro Cinys, Tide Turner
Pocket Dimension: - Unknown

Lemuria is the younger Sister to Solis, Helios, and Asmundis, the Wife of Tenebria and the Mother of Lorelei. She embodies familial ties and is widely beloved across all four realms of Isilendor. She is the 'Caretaker' of all mortals, providing love, hope, and guidance to all. Her astrological projection is a symbolic representation of her love and light found amidst the darkest of times. Lemurian statues are often erected in places most in need of her aid, such as cemeteries and the temples of healing. Most Isilendorian households also own at least one 'Token of Lemuria' to promote good health and well-being within the family. The Lemurian Winter Festival held in her honour is an annual celebration for her aid throughout the winter months.

The Tennents of Lemuria

1. Love can't last forever, when it is left out in the cold. Nurture it.
2. Wherever your heart truly lies, return to it and call it home.
3. Embrace all, love is our whole-hearted acceptance of imperfection.
4. Lend a hand in their hour of need. It will be returned someday.
5. Never give up and never give in; a painful ending is most often the disguise of a beautiful beginning

Marriage Customs

Time of Day: Twilight - Full Moon
Location: Temple of the Divines
Attire: Formal attire - It is traditional for the Bride to wear all white
Extremists who wish to marry in the name of Lemuria usually partake in the pilgrimage to the Beacon of Lemuria at the centre of Delvheim.

Asmundis

Astrological Projection - The Earth
Ruling Realms - The Four Realms of Isilendor
Influences - Beginnings, Burial, Cultivation, Mortal Life, Natural Order, Time
Divine Favour - Therian
Devotee Status - Chronomancer, Werewolf
Relic(s) - Crown of Evergreen, Elder Ring, Staff of Evergreen
Pocket Dimension - Evergreen

Lord Asmundis is the youngest brother of Solis, Helios, and Lemuria, and is the Sixth divine of the Great Pantheon. Unlike the rest of the deities who took on a more humanoid appearance, Asmundis is often depicted as a formidable beast with a body made of bark and a head made of bone. Disgusted by his younger brother's deformity, Solis banished Asmundis from the Aether and trapped him within the mortal plane of existence. In mythology, it is widely believed that the humanoid races of Isilendor were stripped of their immortality due to the presence of Asmundis within their realm. When mortals first came to his shores, Asmundis watched over all from afar, granting them his protection and providing vegetation to help sustain their fragile existence. However, as the mortals lost their respect for the land and turned on one another, Asmundis fled to the forests of Braitheld in search of a place where his innocence can live in peace - The creatures he had brought forth into this world.

The Tennents of Asmundis

1. Find your beginning. No matter where you are, you will always have the choice to embark on a new adventure.
2. Never speak ill of the Dead. Every life longs for acceptance. If not in Life, we owe it in Death.
3. A Familiar Path will always lead to a Familiar Place. Sometimes, that is just not the point.
4. 'Forever' was never a word crafted for the mortal tongue. One must never promise what they can't keep.
5. Never simply kill time, for it shall always choose to kill you.

Marriage Customs

Time of Day: Anytime
Location: Outdoors
Attire: Simple, plain garments are often worn to an Asmundian Wedding, although many choose to decorate their attire utilising the surrounding flora. Flower crowns are traditionally reserved for only the Bride and her Bridal party. Furs and pelts are forbidden at an Asmundian wedding.
Extremists: It is not uncommon for Asmundian Weddings to forgo clothing altogether as many of the Asmundian faith believe it is highly respectful to be bonded in their 'intended' form.

Lorelei

Astrological Projection - The Heart of the Ocean
Ruling Realms - Braitheld & Eldathren
Influences - Dreams, Emotions, Illusions, Memories, Obfuscation, Secrecy
Divine Favour - Waterbearer
Devotee Status - Oneiromancer
Relic(s) - Tide of Lorelei, Ocean's Razor, Griptide, The Rain Bow, The Aspergil, The Great Barrier
Pocket Dimension - The Chantry

Little Lorelei is the daughter of Lady Lemuria and Lord Tenebria, and the Fifth divine being of The Great Pantheon. She is the only mortal to ascend to a higher state of being; however, this notion is often dismissed depending on whom you ask. Born from the collision of a falling star, killing a lone mortal girl in the process, the entity known as Lorelei emerged beneath the waves, imprisoned by the ocean itself. Lemuria, in her grief at having lost one of her beloved star children, blessed Lorelei as the 'Heart of the Ocean' and placed the tide in her care. Her divinity as one of the Great Pantheon has been a heated debate among mortals for generations; however, many have come to accept her in recent years as a true daughter of the divines. She is widely revered as the patron of pirates and all those who spend their lives at sea.

The Tennents of Lorelei

1. Indulge yourself in your flights of fancy. Never be afraid to romance the unusual.
2. Be the person you needed when you were younger...
3. Always remember, your story begins and ends in your mind, make it a good memory when you are done
4. Be as wild as the ocean, emotions are wild things forever playing wicked games
5. Allow yourself to love and be loved in return. There is no greater pearl to be found within the darkened depths of this world

Marriage Customs

Time of Day: Dawn
Location: At sea or the beach
Attire: Loreien Weddings are often the most spontaneous; so much so, very little thought is given to one's outfit. Many couples who marry in the name of Lorelei usually wear their seafaring attire as standard.
Eye of the Storm: Given Lorelei's fickle nature, many believe that the ocean's temperament during a Lorien Wedding is a powerful reflection of Lorelei's feelings towards a union. A bond formed over calm seas is said to have received Lorelei's blessing in earnest and shall enjoy a long and happy marriage. Those formed on rougher seas will encounter many hurdles in life. If a storm unexpectedly appears on an otherwise calm day, it is said that Lorelei has actively cursed the couple, leading many to forgo the marriage altogether.

Airi

Alias(s): Child of Evergreen
Astrological Projection - The Wind
Element - Air
Ruling Realms - Akasuna, Braitheld & Delvheim
Influences - Companionship, Duality, Exploration, Identity, The Arts, Travel
Divine Favour - Flugel
Devotee Status - None
Relic(s): Airi's Windfall, The Last Barrage
Pocket Dimension: - None

Despite Airi's elemental representation of 'Air,' Airi's existence is a recent discovery, having been primarily contained within Evergreen, a pocket dimension of Asmundis. Although not officially inducted into the Great Pantheon as of this writing, Airi's potential as the Seventh Divine Being is undeniable. Born as a manifestation of Evergreen, Airi is widely regarded as a child of Asmundis and thus cousin to Lorelei, prompting many to consider the possibility that a new generation of divinity is beginning to emerge. Unlike the rest of the Great Pantheon, Airi's appearance and gender are unidentifiable as they consistently change at will, leading many to associate Airi with the concept of one's true identity. In their desperation to restore Asmundis and bring about an end to his Ultimate Sacrifice, Airi brought forth the first wave of Flugels—humanoid beings capable of flight.

The Tennents of Airi

1. Discover your Second Self - be it Friend or Foe.
2. Indulge yourself in your flights of fancy. Never be afraid to romance the unusual.
3. Be the change you wish to see in the world.
4. Break all boundaries, revel in your freedom
5. Decorate your life, imbue your deepest passions

Marriage Customs

Mortals have yet to adopt marriage customs in the name of Airi.
